Throughout her artistic career, Kym used her fabulous creative talents to give many a smile with her whimsical, detailed and varied designs. Kym had always kept herself busy being creative and after studying graphic design she developed her skills working in numerous design studios before she went on to become the first in-house artist at CCA Stationery – a role she held for many happy and productive years.
In 1995, Kym left CCA to work for herself, taking on commissions and selling her designs directly to Greeting Card companies. Such was the demand for her work that she went on to form her own company, Kym Bowles Limited, to license and sell her designs worldwide.
Kym’s work was recognised by the Greeting Card Association when she received the prestigious Louie Award which, soon afterwards, led to the creation of her own brand Lollysticks.
Over the years, some fifty or so companies have licensed Kym’s work for use on their products, including: Caspari, Department 56, Tri-Coastal Designs, Pictura, The Popcorn Factory, Leanin’ Tree, Viabella, Maggie Co, Stave Puzzles, Marcus Fabrics and Kurt S. Adler. Today, her work can be seen on greetings cards, stationery, gift wrap, gift bags, gift tins, Christmas decorations, ceramics, fabrics, quilts, needlepoint, jigsaws and many, many more.
Sadly, in 2013 Kym lost her fight with cancer and she passed away. Her husband Steve and sister Diane didn’t want to let Kym’s work fizzle away and so, with the gift of over a thousand original designs, they strive to keep her memory alive and ensure that her work is still in use and enjoyed today.
